Deodorant
Natural deodorant offers many benefits, starting with not using harmful chemicals. But it doesn’t end there. I’ve found my homemade deodorant more effective, longer lasting, and more moisturizing. Since I’ve been using it, I don’t have anymore razor burn or breakouts in my underarm.
Ingredients’ Benefits:
Coconut oil - has antibacterial, antiviral properties, so it helps eliminate odor causing bacteria. It is also moisturizing & soothing for the skin, yet doesn’t clog pores, allowing natural sweating to cool us.
Cetearyl alcohol - For a long time, I resisted putting any type of alcohol in deodorant... until I did more research. Turns out, Cetearyl alcohol is naturally occurring in vegetables, and is (in this case) derived from palm and coconut oils. As I did more research, I found out that beyond stabilizing the product, cetearyl alcohol also softens and soothes the skin. And I’m glad I decided to use it, as it also helps the deodorant glide smoothly on the skin, as well as not feel too oily (my earlier versions also worked great in eliminating the bacteria causing odors, but they felt a bit too oily on the skin).
Beeswax - beyond stabilizing the deodorant (so it’s solid), beeswax also hydrates, conditions and soothes the skin, as well as help prevent loss of moisture to the skin.
Almond oil - I was looking for a very light oil that absorbs easily into the skin, so that it won’t clog pores and won’t make the deodorant feel greasy. Almond oil answers all these requirements and more: It is rich in vitamins E and A, hydrates, and according to some websites, is a natural UV protectant.
Baking soda - kills odor causing bacteria, eliminates odors, helps control sweat moisture, which helps keep the underarms dry.
Arrowroot starch - aids skin irritation (like razor burn), helps absorb sweat, reduces oiliness, softens skin (contains vitamin B6, zinc, iron & potassium), anti-inflammatory.
Kaolin clay - absorbs oils; removes toxins without over drying skin; nourishes skin with trace minerals; gently exfoliates
Zinc dioxide - heals wounds (helps regenerate skin), astringent (removes access oils), reduces inflammation; antioxidant; protects against infection, UV protectant
Lavender essential oil - antibacterial, antimicrobial (so it helps eliminate odor causing bacteria), soothes skin (and the moods), helps heal minor cuts & scrapes (which is great to help razor burn)
Bergamot essential oil - antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, stimulates skin cell renewal
Tea tree essential oil - is a strong antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent (prevents oily skin), anti-inflammatory, moisturizing
Geranium essential oil - antibacterial, astringent (prevents oily skin), soothes skin, wound-healing, anti-inflammatory
